Cityscape Photography 1: Melbourne at night

by Victor Augusteo on October 5, 2008

Well, its about time i write blog about my photos. I’ll just start off with my favourite black and white pictures. I took those during a workshop with MPC (Monash Photography Club) crew. I can say that this is the first time i really go out at cold night and shoot picture of the lovely melbourne, even though i’ve been here for 2 years. The result are awesome. I really love it. I experimented with 30 second exposure to give the dynamic feel to the clouds. I never knew a cityscape could look so good without color.

Pic 1: A look from the river. I love the reflection on the water and the cloud in the sky. Really give majestic feel to the buildings. 22mm 30s at f10

Pic 2: Taken from the bridge beside flinder street station. 30 second exposure transform the traffic to light trails and give the starry effect to the street lights. 18mm 20s at f10

Pic 3: Taken from the same bridge as pic 2. I really like the reflection on the water. 20mm 8s at f7.1

Pic 4: Southbank is a lovely place. It is usually very busy with lots of people going there just to chill out and enjoy the dining and the city scenery. I got lucky that night to capture southbank without a single person near there. Maybe the cold weather help a bit :p 32mm 30s at f20

Pic 5: This is Eureka tower just beside yarra river. One of the tallest building in melbourne. This photo is really simple. It only has 4 elements, i.e. The sky, Eureka tower, building beneath it, and the trees. Yet it gives a real impact for me. 18mm 30s at f10

Oh my God! i just wrote my first blog post! Now i’ll try to keep up posting my photos and stories to this blog. Maybe daily.

What do you think of the photos? I would love some feedback from you. So… leave some comment ya! :D
